Public Open Space

Landscape architects and garden designers work on similar
projects , although there can be considerable blurring.
The simplistic view is that garden designers work primarily
on spaces that are private, whereas landscape
architects tend to work on places and spaces viewed
or used by the wider public. The needs and demands
on the spaces are different.

Of course this is far too simplistic, but can be a guide

Troyes paving

There are times when the dynamic of a public space is given a
series of conditions that don't exactly work, over-dynamising the
space. In Troyes, France, behind the Eglise Saint Jean au Marche
these strong lines had a very odd layout from a sort of viewing area
outside a shop and splayed radial pattern that bumped into the
planting. Recently new granite sett paving has largely replaced the
clay and concrete splay, orphaning the elements still left
