The pitch

... and a blinding light...

Ecchinswell Cricket Club

What are the elements of a typical English village? A hall, a church, a pub and a cricket team.

The first three are already in place, and now serious efforts are being made to to complete the fab four, with the reformation of Ecchinswell Cricket Club. A committee has been elected, we've got a national-standard coach, some players have volunteered and work has begun on resurrecting the pitch.

But to succeed as a village activity, help and support is needed from the whole community. We don't want to go outside the village for players and support because that would defeat the purpose of the exercise. So, please, offer what help you can to ensure that this enterprise works.

We need players, of whatever standard and however irregularly they might be prepared to turn out. We'll be delighted if the young and talented elbow out those of us who get things going – the playing future is yours, and the future starts any time you're ready.

We want help in whatever form it takes. We want support from everyone interested in cricket and/or the village by becoming members of the club.

We also want some opposition. At this stage we are interested in a couple of fixtures for this season against sides that are not too strong but who want a gentle game of cricket, perhaps an evening game or a Sunday afternoon.

Everyone concerned is putting in a lot of effort to provide a new facility within the village. Please come forward to help in any way you can.
