Cof E Primary School
Ecchinswell and Sydmonton Church of England Primary School is a small school with a pupil roll that fluctuates between 95 – 110, currently at the lower end. It is situated in a particularly attractive part of North Hampshire.
It’s pupil base is derived from Ecchinswell village, population approximately 770, and a local housing association estate, 3 miles from the school, called Bishops Green. The Bishops Green children arrive by bus each day, village children by car or on foot.
The school is in the heart of the village, opposite the village hall which is also an important focal point of village life, including indoor facilities, a play park and ample playing fields. There is also a village pub.
Ecchinswell School, being a Church of England School has close links with the village church, St. Lawrences and regular assemblies are taken by the vicar, David Bartholomew.
Ecchinswell is approximately 11 miles from Basingstoke and 5 miles from Newbury.
The school was established in the nineteenth century and was gifted to the village through the church by the Kingsmill family. OFSTED inspected the school in November 2006. The overall judgement was satisfactory with many strengths. The section 48 inspection judged the school good with elements of outstanding.
