The Point-to-Point Sponsorship Committee is again very pleased to report that Volkswagen UK, The Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Hiscox plc will all be continuing their sponsorships in 2007.

Special mention should be made, however, of Dodson & Horrell Ltd., entering their 20th year of sponsorship of PPORA Club Races making them the all time longest serving national sponsors in point-to-pointing.

We are however, particularly delighted to announce that The Master of Foxhounds Association will be the new co-sponsor of the Maiden Mares Series alongside long-term sponsors The Thoroughbred Breeder's Association. The conditions for this series offer any mare having won a Maiden Race in the current season or been placed in the first four past the post in a TBA/MFHA qualifying race scheduled for 2007 is eligible to run in the Final at The Melton Hunt Club on Saturday, 12th May.

We are delighted that Hiscox plc, leading specialist insurance group are continuing with the third year of their Intermediate Series with fourteen qualifying races culminating with a £6,500 final at Cheltenham Racecourse on the Wednesday (evening) 2nd May. Any horse having won an Intermediate race in the current season or been placed in the first four in a Hiscox sponsored race will qualify for the final.

Weatherbys Chase are to continue their sponsorship of the popular PPORA Young Horse Awards which will be presented at the PPORA Annual Lunch at Stratford Racecourse on Friday, 25th May. Please look out for the regular Area Points Tables during the Season. They will also present the Weatherbys Chase Jim Mahon Industry Award which was created to recognise those people who have made an outstanding contribution to Point-to-Pointing and Hunter Chasing.

We are particularly pleased to announce that The Racing Post Weekender are continuing their sponsorship of the Wilkinson Sword Award and that Volkswagen UK are to continue their sponsorship of The Princess Royal Trophy Annual Lunch at Stratford

The Weatherbys Chase Point-To-Point Owners' & Riders' Association Young Horse Awards

The PPORA Young Horse Award s, for the best 5,6 and 7 year old point-to-pointers in Great Britain will again be sponsored by Weatherbys Chase.

The National Champion will receive £1,000 plus a Trophy value £350, and each of the Champions in the other 13 areas will receive a trophy value £250. All award winners will also receive two tickets to the PPORA Awards Luncheon, to be held at Stratford Racecourse on Friday, 25th May, where they will be presented with their prizes together with two badges for racing that evening.

The point system for the Awards allocates the first, second and third horses home in Open races, 10, 6 and 3 points respectively, and in all other races' 8, 4 and 2 points respectively. In the event of a tie, the Award will be made to the horse with the most wins, Open races taking precedence. If there is still a tie, the Award will be divided. Points can be accrued in any Area, the qualifying hunt of the Owners' determining for which area award the owner is eligible. All points will be counted up to and including Sunday, 20th May, 2007

The Weatherbys Chase Jim Mahon Industry Award

This award was created to recognise those people who have made an outstanding contribution to Point-to-Pointing and Hunterchasing and will be announced at the PPORA Luncheon on Friday, 25th May, 2007

The Racing Post Weekender Novice Award For The Wilkinson Sword

We are delighted that The Racing Post Weekender is continuing their sponsorship of The Wilkinson Sword. It will be awarded to the leading Gentleman Novice Rider under 21, who has not ridden a winner under any rules before the start of the current season, and who has not attained his 21st birthday by the 1st December, 2006. The winner will receive two tickets to the PPORA Annual Lunch to be held at Stratford Racecourse on Friday, 25th May to receive his trophy and a memento together with two badges for racing that evening. In addition he will receive individual tuition with Yogi Breisner at the British Racing School.

All points will be counted up to and including Sunday, 21st May, 2007

The Volkwagen Touareg Novice Award For The Princess Royal Trophy

We are delighted that Volkswagen, to compliment their Volkswagen Touareg sponsorship of the Men's Open Championship, has again agreed to sponsor The Princess Royal Trophy.

Harley Racing PPORA Novice Riders' Points Series

We are delighted that Tracey Habgood of Harley Racing has again, for the fourth year generously agreed to sponsor the Novice Riders' Race Points Series initiated by The Point-to-Point Owners' and Riders' Association (PPORA).

For each of the Novice Riders Races scheduled up to and including Sunday, 20th May, the winning rider will score 4 points; the second, 2 points and the third, 1 point.

The Awards will be presented at The PPORA Annual Awards Lunch at Stratford Racecourse on Friday, 25th May 2006. The Awards being presented are as follows:

  • Leading Scorer £400 Harley Racing Equipment Voucher
  • 2nd £200 Harley Racing Equipment Voucher
  • 3rd £100 Harley Racing Equipment Voucher

The three successful riders will also receive personal tuition with Yogi Breisner.

Weatherbys Chase have very kindly supplied the results for this Points Series.

The Dick Woodhouse Memorial Trophy

The Dick Woodhouse Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the leading Owner/Rider of the Season by Mrs Susan Woodhouse. The winner will receive two tickets to the PPORA Annual Lunch to be held at Stratford Racecourse on Friday, 25th May to receive their trophy and a memento together with two badges for racing that evening.
