Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us and found in all things.
The Usui System of Reiki Healing or Usui Shiki Ryoho applies this energy through gentle touch for the purpose of healing
How can I benefit from a Reiki treatment?
Reiki can be used as a path for personal growth and transformation. As a therapy it is not only healing but deeply relaxing, working on all levels to re-balance the body by working on the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical levels to give you a feeling of peace, well-being and tranquillity. Reiki flows to the areas of the body that needs it, changing, healing, energising and encouraging the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Reiki can help you restore balance in your life. Reiki treats the cause of disease rather than the symptoms and can speed up the natural healing process. Reiki supports all forms of treatment - both complimentary and orthodox.
Which conditions can Reiki help?
It is possible to heal at any level of being: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Acute injuries can be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness can take longer. Reiki can be successfully administered very simply in all kinds of settings: home, clinic, hospital, or any place where people experience stressed muscles, accidents, exhaustion, or personal trauma.
On the physical level, Reiki can bring relaxation to stressed muscles, decrease pain, accelerate the healing time of bones and wounds, and diminish the tissue involvement of burns and skin conditions. Reiki can also reduce the symptoms of disease and illness.
On a mental and emotional level, anxiety is reduced, a sense of well-being is increased and a new level of relaxation can be felt. At this degree of deep relaxation, a rebalancing of energies can occur and the natural healing ability of the body is enhanced.
On a spiritual level, people have stated they feel revitalised and newly awakened after a full-body session.
What can I expect from a Reiki treatment?
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a massage couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts.
The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the head, the abdomen, the back, and any particular areas of pain or discomfort. The practitioner is a channel through which the energy is drawn through by the need or imbalance in the recipient.
When a Reiki practitioner places their hands on an area of their own or a client's clothed body, Reiki flows through the practitioner into the client. This transfer may be felt as any type of sensation such as heat, cold, vibration, tingling or unusual heaviness.
