The widest choice of techniques

For virtually any liquid, steam, gas or slurry there is a cost-effective flowmeter solution from ABB. Please use the table to find the right flowmeter for your application.
Additionally ABB offers a wide range of Flow computer units designed for industrial process signal monitoring and logging.

Variable Area Flowmeters

Proven in virtually any application - ABB Variable Area Flowmeters have the largest world-wide number of installations of any brand. A highly economical solution to a wide range of low flow liquid, gas and steam applications handling flows of less than 50cc/min (3cu in/min) air or 0.55cc/min (0.03cu in/min) in water.

The flowmeter operation is based on the variable area principle.
They can be utilized for measuring the flow of liquids, steam and gases.
Especially when aggressive or opaque fluids are to be metered.
They are indispensabele where high pressure and/ or high temperature operating conditions exist.
  • Flowmeter primary designs:
    - Standard design with St. st. flanges, meter tube and float
    - Sanitary design and PTFE are also available.

  • Secondary instrument designs:

    AM54_71 Indicator
    AM54_72 Indicator with Min.-Alarm
    AM54_73 Indicator with Max.-Alarm
    AM54_74 Indicator with Min.+ Max.-Alarm
AM54_3_ Indicator with 4-20 mA output signal

The armored Purgemeter offers possibilities for metering small gas and liquid flows. This meter is especially suited for meter applications with cloudy, opaque or aggressive fluids in chemical and pharmaceutical industries. For all applications where glass tube meters cannot be utilized due safety considerations.
  • Installation lengh only 90mm
  • St. Steel housing
  • Min. and/or max. alarm
  • With- or without needle valve
  • Horizontal or vertical threaded connection

The wide variety of float weights and meter tubes allows the Glass Tube Flowmeter FAG1190 to be matched exactly to the required flow range. The bead design is the standard meter tube design in sizes 1/16" to 2". The three ribs, which are parallel to the center axis of the meter tube, guide the float over the entire flow range. This assures a high degree of reproducibility because the float is absolutely centered in the meter tube.

  • Stainless steel housing is standard
  • Safety protection tube to protect the user should the meter tube burst
  • O-Ring seals for the meter tube
  • Alarms: Min., Max., Min. and Max.
  • Numerous flow ranges

Glass Tube Flowmeter

The wide variety of float weights and meter tubes allows the Glass Tube Flowmeter FAG3500 to be matched precisely to the required flow range. The FAG3500 has a replaceable metering tube with O-ring seals.
The standard meter in sizes ½ to 2 in. uses the beaded tube design, in which three beads in the tube wall – and parallel to the tube axis – guide the float, locating it exactly in the centre of the tube. Special high-capacity floats are available that are guided via a central rod within plain (non-beaded) tapered tubes. Keeping the float in the centre of the tube using these methods ensures high reproducibility.

  • Optional polycarbonate safety shield to protect the user if the meter tube bursts
  • 180° visibility of float position
  • O-ring seals for the meter tube
  • Tube & float exchange without removing meter body from the line
  • Alarms: Min., Max., Min. & Max.
  • Large selection of flow ranges
