Harry Stephenson LLB served with Durham Constabulary for over thirty years reaching the rank of Detective Superintendent. He has been commended on 15 occasions by Judges, HM Coroners, Magistrates and Chief Constables for his outstanding Leadership, Professionalism and Investigative Skills and Abilities.

During the last ten years of his service as a Superintendent Harry was Head of Durham Constabulary's Intelligence Unit, The Principal Senior Investigating Officer for the Constabulary and more recently prior to his retirement Head of the Professional Standards and Legal Services Department.

Harry's areas of expertise are in the management of all types of criminal investigations and critical incidents, including, Murder, Kidnap, and Extortion, Product Contamination, Hostage Negotiation, Terrorism, Economic Crime and Serious Crime as well as considerable experience in all methods of covert policing operations, including surveillance, source management and undercover policing.

During his service he successfully investigated twenty nine offences of murder. He also acted as a mentor to many of the current accredited Senior Investigating Officers within Durham Constabulary. Harry was the operational commander and Senior Investigating officer for all crime related matters for Operation Saxon, the visit to County Durham by the President of the United States George Bush on the 21st of November 2003. He was commended for his role during this operation.

As the Head of Professional Standards he led investigations into police misconduct, honesty, integrity and corruption issues in the work place and carried out investigations on behalf of the Independent Police Complaints Commission. He has also acted as the presenting officer in Internal Police Misconduct Hearings.

Whilst serving as a Superintendent, for over eight years, he was a member of the Superintendents Association Panel of Friends representing colleagues who were subject of misconduct investigations.

Harry has significant experience in all aspects of dealing with the media at a National and Local level.
