Brian Dunn Dip SocPol (Open) BSc (Hons) Open served with Cleveland Police for thirty years reaching the rank of Superintendent. During this time he was a force dedicated Senior Investigating Officer, dealing with numerous major crime investigations in such diverse areas as Kidnap, Firearms Offences and Terrorism and the planning and execution of a number of high profile police operations. He has worked as the Head of the Murder Investigation Team, Specialist Crime and Operations and the Force Intelligence Department. During which time he gained considerable experience in all methods of covert policing operations, including surveillance, source management, undercover policing and has been commended on a number of occasions by the Chief Constable for his outstanding "Leadership and Investigative" ability. Brian was the Cleveland Police "Family Liaison Coordinator" for 9/11 and as part of the UK police response provided assistance to the police in New York and the families of the British victims. He also provided assistance to the family of a British subject injured in the Bali Bombing. Prior to retirement, as the Head of the Professional Standards Dept he was responsible for investigations into complaints against police, honesty, integrity and anti-corruption measures, working closely with the "Independent Police Complaints Commission". His portfolio has also included management of the Data Protection, Criminal Records Bureau, Information Security, Vetting, and Freedom of Information Units. He led the team that carried out the “Best Value Review” of drugs and was responsible for the drafting and implementation of the Cleveland Police “Drugs and Alcohol Policy”. He assisted in the drafting and introduction of the Police Authority “Anti-Fraud and Corruption Policy”, “Whistleblowing Policy” and the introduction of a “Confidential Reporting System” to the force. Brian has been a major influence in the development of the HOLMES 2 major investigation database as the national chairperson for the past seven years (2001 to 2008).
