Following completion of a further education teaching certificate Gail became responsible for staff training. She developed an interest in health and safety, risk management and moving and handling issues and subsequently went on to undertake further study in these areas, completing a manual handling trainer certificate, a certificate in occupational safety and health (NEBOSH) and a post graduate certificate in back care management at Loughborough University.
Gail successfully piloted the first intermediate care scheme in her area which involved patients being discharged from hospital to the Nursing Home for a programme of rehabilitation prior to returning home. Gail liased with Occupational and Physiotherapists to ensure effective discharge to the clients own home.
Gail has worked as a freelance trainer in the care sector since 2002 and has successfully introduced safer handling policies into both community and residential settings, working in partnership with care givers and service users to ensure the most suitable outcomes.
In association with Pamela Rose Associates Gail has worked with equipment manufacturers advising on hoist and sling design.
