    FACIAL REJUVENATION

'
As a make-up artist, I love perfect skin. It's like a blank canvas; plus, it makes me feel radiant and healthy. On my quest for complexion perfection, I discovered Photorejuvenation, a high-density light treatment that gets rid of blemishes, sun spots, uneven pigmentation, birthmarks and broken veins. Roisin, my therapist, paints thick, cooling gel all over my face. Then I don goggles as she brandishes what looks like a Star Trek stun gun. I feel a series of snaps, like an elastic band hitting my face. After half an hour, my face looks a bit red, but it's nothing concealer can't cover. After the redness calms down, my sun spots become crisp, rise to the surface and flake off (it's not as gross as it sounds). Three days later, I have flawless skin. It also boosts collagen by 30 per cent, so my skin looks fresh and plump. Results are practically permanent with only freckles reappearing.

Michael James
Then this year - I'm now 21 - I decided that enough was enough. I booked an appointment at the Private Clinic in Harley Street after hearing about a treatment called VascuLight, a procedure that treats marks and blemishes on the face using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser technology. The success rate being extremely high, I decided to go for it.' 'It did hurt, I won't deny it,' says Michael, but the pain was bearable. However, top marks to the staff, who were fantastic and applied cooling gel to the area straight after the treatment to bring the skin temperature back down to normal'. And the result? 'Better than I or the clinic expected', he says. 'The mark is virtually none existent and I may need a repeat treatment but after this, it should disappear completely. It really has changed my life.

Ann Vowinckel
Photorejuvenation is a new high-tech skin treatment that tackles common problems - uneven pigmentation, redness, acne scarring and coarse skin texture. Unlike everyday beauty treatments, it's performed by qualified medical staff, using intense pulsed light technology (IPL). Being the coward I am I sent my friend Cathy to The Private Clinic in Harley Street to try it out. Now, after her second treatment, she is happy to report that all her blemishes have disappeared, the veins are virtually non-existent and apparently after a few more treatments her frown lines will decrease considerably, too.

When I knew I was going to have a light treatment to get rid of my pigmentation I was a bit nervous. A machine with a head that pulses light was passed over my skin a small section at a time. As the light flashed I felt little pin pricks and intense heat. All in all it took 15 minutes to do my face, and afterwards it felt hot and looked healthy, pink and plump. I was cooled with aloe vera gel before leaving. Within two days the pigmentation marks had gone darker and then they slowly disappeared. They faded by about a third after one treatment and I was really pleased.

     HAIR REMOVAL
Selina Khan - Manchester,
I was 11 when I first noticed I had more hair than other girls my age. I didn't speak to anyone and no one approached me about it, probably because it's such a taboo subject. I knew that kids on the playground were whispering about me but ignored it. As I got older, a little beard and a moustache appeared - in fact, I had hair all over my arms, legs, stomach, chest and bottom. It was sheer hell. When I looked in the mirror, I just wanted to cry. Last year I started a course of treatment using the Epilight hair removal system, which works by applying light to the hair follicles to destroy the hair and lessen its chance of growing back. I had seven more sessions and my arms are now virtually hair-free. It's been a dream come true. It's such a novelty to wear a short-sleeved top not worrying about anyone seeing! Now, at 31, I'm with my first ever boyfriend, Yusuf. He didn't know me through the bad times but he's so supportive. We've only been together for seven months but we've decided to get married. I know it's quick but I'm making up for lost time!

Tracey Webb
'But by the time I was in my 20s, my hair had tickened considerably, spreading round the sides of my face, just like a man.' If I mentioned my problem to friends, they would respond with: 'Well. I had noticed...' It was a miserable time for me; I never wanted to go out and constantly kept my head tilted downwards.'  I looked on the phone book and found a clinic offering a permanent hair-removal treatment. To my delight, my mum and dad offered to pay for the treatment, which cost £900, for my birthday. 'After years of embarrassment and shame, suddenly the hairs were falling out and I had a lovely feminine neck to show off! It was if suddenly if someone shook the life back into me. I regained all my confidence and finally the old me was back. 'The hair still hasn't gone completely, but it looks so much better. I feel as though I can meet people now and talk to them face to face.  ' When I used to look in the mirror, I would feel disgust. Now, for the first time in years, I can hold my head up high.'

R. J. Yates - Moston - Manchester
I would like to write and say thank you for the treatment I have received for hair removal at your clinic over the past year. Now I am at the end of my treatment, I would like to add how I feel it was worth the money and I do not regret for one moment having the treatment done, and to also compliment the staff on their care and professionalism.

T.S. - Gorton - Manchester
Last April I decided to take the plunge and have treatment on my arms. Many people would think I was mad to spend so much money, but only I knew what it was like to cope with, especially summer time, which I dreaded each year. I have had 10 years of electrolysis on my face but thick hair still was visible. Waxing was uncomfortable but after growth was excruciatingly painful. I read about EpiLight hair removal but never envisaged having treatment myself whilst still relatively young. I consider myself lucky that I have met people who genuinely cared about my feelings. Not everyone treats you like this, some people see you as a freak. All those year of suffering to hide under long sleeves to plan ahead if I wanted to wear sleeveless dresses is all over. I feel feminine for the first time in my life.

     SNORING

Barry - Devon
On the 30th March 2006 I had nasal Laser surgery on the Turbinates, that was approximately 8 weeks ago. My breathing through the nose is greatly improved, the left nostril is clearer but the right nostril still feels slightly blocked, although not all the time. I have left it this long to contact you about it as I still had scar tissue and small scabs in the tissues whilst blowing my nose only two weeks ago. I realise that the healing process is ongoing and may take some more time - this is why I am waiting to see what happens.

I spoke to a lady (sorry forgot her name) on the telephone a couple of weeks afer the oepration and asked if there was any time guarantee in case more work was needed when healing completed, or would I have to pay for the operation again. She said there was a one year guarantee and I would not have to pay again in this period. She also said that the Turbinates may need a little trimming. I would appreciate it if you would please confirm this for me. I shall wait a bit longer to see if there is some more improvement in breathing.

I was so pleased with my visit to your Clinic, everyone was so kind and helpful, I only wish I had known of Laser surgery at the Clinic before - lucky for me I spotted the newspaper advertisement. I will certainly recommend you to anyone I know with the same problem as me. Having lived in London for nearly 60 years I probably would have had more information about you, but having moved to Devon 5 years ago I guess I am a little out of touch with the big city.

Willie Pool
'I've had a nose job. I had been conscious for some time that I was not breathing properly through my nose - it felt as though both cundies were permanently partly blocked.
And so, Last Thursday, when you were reading my cosy column on whatever it was, I was sitting in Harley Street, London, with a large Frenchman poking about my nose.
He sticks acupuncture pins all over your ears and a nice lady gives you a couple of pills to chew. You cease to feel your nose and the back of your throat. This is just as well, because M le Medecin then sets about the inside of your nose with a laser gun. I have to tell you that I never felt a thing. The whole thing took about 20 minutes. For a few days after, you have a runny nose, but apart from that and a certain rawness at the back of the nose (I don't feel like smoking just yet) there have been no ill effects on my person.

Gary Woodhatch
"I read about the treatment offered at the Sleep Disorder Clinic in Harley Street, London, and knew I would have to give it a try," says Gary. "The first part of the treatment involved me sitting in a chair, just like at the dentist. Professor Yves-Victor Kamami, who pioneered the procedure, then zapped off my tonsils and shaved my uvula with a laser beam. Naturally I'd had pain relief beforehand, but I didn't need a general anaesthetic and I didn't bleed. It took about 15 minutes and although I was a bit shaky afterwards, I was free to go home the same day. I was back at work a couple of days later. "The snoring has definitely stopped" says Lynne. "Gary is just breathing very heavily now. He still has to have another operation on the bridge of his nose, but hopefully after that he'll be fine."

R.I. Carter - North Somerset
It is now several months since you performed the nasal and LAUP surgery for me at your Harley Street centre, and I am writing to tell you that the results have been really excellent! After the expected first two or three weeks of mild discomfort (running nose and sore throat, respectively), I soon felt much better. My sleeping has improved enormously, and it is wonderful not having to keep using a nasal decongestant spray all the time! I can now say without hesitation that it was all well worth it, and I would have no hesitation in recommending both procedures to all other sufferers.
I would like to thank your staff very much for their efficient service and excellent treatment.

Janice Gander - Milton Keynes
"I was desperate". "I tried various other things such as nasal sprays and things to put up your nose at night but nothing worked. In the meantime my snoring was putting a real strain on my marriage. It was the fact that the operation was carried out quickly at the clinic under a local anaesthetic and not only did not involve a stay in hospital but allowed you to get up and walk out almost immediately afterwards, that attracted me to it. "My husband and I were at the clinic for 10am and left about 12am. "It's been totally successful. We are both so relieved to have this problem out of the way - he saved a marriage."

PETER WISE - WEST MIDLANDS
The operation was a success and I believe I am actually incapable of snoring. At no time during the operation was there any pain or even any sensation of activity. There was no pain during normal breathing or talking at any time afterwards - only while swallowing.

William B. Michelson - Bermuda
I am writing to inform you that the procedure was a great success. Having been a loud snorer every night for many years, I am now described as being "quiet as a lamb".
My partner and your relationship, have acquired a new lease of life! I also feel much better in the mornings and can physically feel improved breathing during the day.

Michael Duffield - Eastleigh
My wife Helen noticed the difference it made to my snoring straightaway. Helen added; "Before the operation it was like sleeping in a cabin of a ship next to turbines. I used to wake him up after a bit and on other times he would wake himself up because he would stop breathing. He is so much better now".

John Upstone - Cardiff
My snoring has virtually stopped, and other benefits that I have noticed are much improved senses of smell and taste, and my breathing is a lot easier. I am now getting used to my "new" palate and I am experiencing no problems with swallowing but sneezing can be a bit disconcerning at times.

Dinsdale Broderick - Bromley
"My girlfriend wanted to hug and kiss the surgeon - until the operation we had had to sleep in separate rooms out of necessity. "Since the treatment I have fallen asleep in public - at the theatre in fact and not because I was tired but was bored - and nobody knew I was asleep. Before they would have been left in no doubt at all!"

Ian Westmoreland - Yorkshire
I am writing to thank you very much for my recent operation.  What a difference it has made, to my driving, my work, and my spare time. I now have greater concentration while driving, I have more energy, and more alert at work, and I can stay awake on the evening. I have more "go" in the morning, and the comments about my snoring has stopped. I also find it easier to breath.

Mr & Mrs Wicked - Hants
We are writing to tell you that the laser treatment we received to reshape the soft palate and trim of the uvula in order to stop us snoring has been 100 percent successful.  We are absolutely delighted, and it is such a relief to have a good night sleep without resorting to earplugs and pills.
I am singing again, and passed the audition I went for 3 weeks after the operation. My singing has not been affected.
We have recommended several of our friends with snoring problems to you.

T.J Shaw - Oxon
My snoring problem no longer exists, I am sleeping better and now wake up more refreshed than I can remember for a long time, with more energy to get through the day without the desire for cat naps to get me through. Consequently, I am much more alert and enjoying life again. Your prognosis was spot on, as were your comments on post operative effects.

David Hughson - Stirling
I would like to take this opportunity to convey my sincere thanks to Dr Kamami and all at your clinic, for my recent successful laser treatment. I cannot believe how, after such a short time, my breathing is clearer than I can ever remember.  The treatment was so short and painless, I had no discomfort at all.

Judith Richardson - Preston
"I found the treatment very different from anything I have experienced before. My surgeon was very good, explaining everything that was happening and reassuring me all the time". "The treatment didn't last long and the doctor kept breaking off while carrying it out to give me a rest.
The end results have been well worth it. I am getting a better night's sleep - and so is my husband. I would recommend it to other people."

Kean Clifford - Broughton Green
The process was not unlike having a filling at the dentist.  They gave me a local anaesthetic and 15 minutes later it was all over. In fact, within the hour I was travelling home, walking and talking normally - just feeling like I had a bit of a sore throat.

Richard Morgan - Derby
"It was pretty nerve racking to think about exactly what I was letting myself in for, but the premises in London were very pleasant and everyone was very helpful. There is an enormous improvement in snoring. I still snore a bit through my nose but my wife says it is nothing compared to what it used to be."

Philip Dinsdale - Chobham
"The operation seemed to last 10-15 minutes and while it wasn't the nicest experience in the world, it was well worth 10 minutes of discomfort to get rid of 27 years of pain in the neck. "The operation has been 100 percent successful.
On occasions I have woken up, noticed I wasn't breathing and have to calm myself down and consciously think again before I could restart breathing. That hasn't happened since my operation
.

Christopher Cleeter - Southampton
The results of the operation have been quite wide ranging.
"It hasn't been a 100 percent cure for the snoring but I don't make anywhere near the amount of noise I used to make.
My relationship with Jane has improved - meaning less nights in the back room. My short memory is also much better and I am less tired during the day.

      ROSACEA
Jemma
'Depending on how much time - and money - you're prepared to invest in your skin, you really can make the absolute best of what you've got. After just one session my skin was as soft as a baby's whatsit and the veins round my nose had vanished.  Immediately afterwards, my face felt slightly dry and was a bit pink (the pigmentation freckles went darker, then disappeared a few days later as warned). But I only needed a light-tinted moisturiser rather than a councillor.
No one noticed a thing. You can't have Photorejuvenation if you've got a tan, as your skin must be its natural colour.'

Stuart Anderson
I'm a 39 year old male who suffers from broken veins on my cheeks and nose, and from rosacea, a skin condition which in my case affected mostly the cheeks giving a flushed appearance. I was mostly interested in the broken veins, but the Vasculight treatment which uses intense pulsed light to destroy  the veins, will also treat the rosacea at the same time. I put my condition down to working in cold and hot climates outdoors over the years, and years of riding a motorcycle and cold windy days. I went for a free consultation and after having the treatment explained I booked a course of 5 treatments. After 4 treatments I can honestly say the veins are nearly all gone. My rosacea condition has greatly improved from being a very flushed appearance, to a mild one. I recommend this to anybody who suffers from unsightly veins, as I did, to pluck up the courage and do something about them, as you don't have to put up with worrying about how bad they look. The staff are very friendly and put you at ease, which helped me a lot as I was anxious about the treatment. I'm looking forward to finishing the course and getting on with life without broken veins.

     VEINS

Joyce Wallworth
This letter is to express how pleased I'm with the treatment I've had done on my legs to remove the broken veins, which have caused me problems for the past few years. I would not wear shorts or skirts. or even go swimming, but now that is all in the past. This summer it will be different thanks to the Vasculight treatment. I can recommend it to anyone with problems with veins.

Rachel Whitburn
'I have a horrible patch on my thigh.' says Rachel. 'I tried sclerotheraphy injections once, but it was too painful. Vasculight sounded a great innovation,'. 'It does make you jump a bit but, after three sessions, the veins have faded and I can wear shorter skirts again without feeling embarrassed.

Jane Fisher
'I had spider veins at the bottom and the top of one leg. They had bothered me for years but I didn't know there was anything I could do about them. I thought I just had to live with them.
'I had been in contact with the Private Clinic and they told me about this new treatment, so I thought I would give it a go. 'It is uncomfortable, but no like having needles stuck into you. The only way I can describe the feeling is that is like having an elastic band snapped a bit for a second, then it's gone. There is not even any need for anaesthetic. I've had only one lot of treatment so far, but the results are amazing. After they had done it they told me to have a look, and there was nothing there. 'I had to wear support tights as a precaution for two days and had a bit of bruising, but that will soon go. The main thing is the veins have gone.'

Lizzie Hayman
Vasculight is a non-invasive procedure that involves intense pulsed light technology and a laser. It's used to treat unsightly varicose veins and/or spider veins on the legs. Initially I was told that it would feel like the snap of a rubber band, so I was expecting a bit of pain - but I didn't expect it to get worse with each 'shot' of the laser! It takes a course of around three to four sessions for them to disappear completely. If you're conscious of your veins, you'll be very happy with this treatment.

Ann
'I have fine pores, but I've always hated my red veins.
I lived in Australia for 25 years and the sun has made me more blotchy and lined. When I was 45 I looked 10 years younger, but in the past five years I've started to age more quickly. I don't like wearing make-up, but I do need a concealer. After the first treatment, my skin felt firmer and glowed as if I'd been sunbathing. I was warned that in a couple of days my veins would look darker and, sure enough, my skin looked awful. The light seemed to bring out areas I didn't even realise were a problem! But after five days I could see an improvement. My second treatment inspired me to have my hair cut. I don't need to hide behind it any more and I no longer feel uncomfortable without make-up. I think my skin looks fresher and that's what I wanted to achieve.

     ACNE

Nick Clayton - Manchester
Having suffered from acne since I was 16, and having attempted numerous things to alleviate my condition - including homeopathy, food elimination, pills and vitamin regimes - most of which were expensive and impractical, I eventually discovered the pioneering treatment offered by the Private Clinic. As any acne sufferer knows, it is not always particularly easy to talk about the problem, but I'm pleased to say that from the initial consultation through the treatment I received professional, sympathetic and caring advice from the the staff in the Manchester Clinic. I have had three treatments involving 'N-Lite'. I must be honest, however, when I say that after my first session my acne initially became worse. I was reassured that this was normal, though, and I would need to persevere with the course. Indeed, after my second session, my skin seemed to be showing little improvement. Increasingly frustrated, but not wanting to give up I underwent my third and final session. The results were unbelievable: my skin started to heal itself, the appearance of new spots became a real rarity, and the scars that had plagued me for so long almost disappeared. Friends and family saw the difference and told me so -that was uplifting!
My message to anybody commencing 'N-Lite' would be to persevere with the treatment; it's not an overnight miracle cure - you gave to be realistic and listen to the advice of the clinic staff. Things may get worse before they get better, but in this case 'good things really do come to those who wait'.

Rachel Aston
I discovered Clearlight because my job on a magazine brings me into contact with new treatments. The machine produces waves of blue light energy to do this and although I had to wear goggles, the only thing I felt was warmth. After eight sessions there was a real improvement. My skin looked smoother and I had fewer spots.

Louis James
I've had acne for years and I've tried most treatments - from Clearasil through antibiotics to glycolic acid peels - with varying degrees of discomfort and little success. ClearLight interested me because it aims to offer real relief with no side-effects. It uses a blue light to kill the bacteria that lurk within the skin and cause the trouble. After the first two treatments my skin did seem to clear up, although the experts say it might take up to four weeks after completing the course before you find out how successful it's been. But at the end of the four-week course I was disappointed. The light seemed to be treating existing spots but not preventing new ones forming, and just over halfway the course my skin seemed worse! However, what did surprise me was that almost four weeks to the day after my final ClearLight session, my skin was spot free and it's been pretty clear ever since.
I've had a few small blemishes but they disappeared and at the moment I'm very happy with my skin. It's not perfect but it is a lot better.

     PSORIASIS

YVONNE PEREZ-LEIS - London
When I first got psoriasis, I'd just started a course I hated and was feeling stressed. At first there was just a small patch on my arm, but over the next six months it spread until it was the size of a tennis ball. Then it appeared on my legs, too, and it got very visible, painful and itchy. My GP gave me anti-fungal cream, but it kept on spreading. When it moved to my face, I went to hospital. The consultant diagnosed psoriasis and gave me some steroid cream. This stopped it itching but didn't clear it up. I volunteered to take part in a UVB trial and began a course of BClear treatments.
After three treatments the psoriasis had almost disappeared.
I can still see a few small patches but they are nothing compared to what they were. My boyfriend says he can barely notice them. Even more encouraging, I can see healthy skin growing through from underneath. The treatment didn't hurt and took only about 15 minutes. It was very quick and easy and the results are incredible.
