Essentis Architecture

Euronet Essentis Ltd has developed a family of products based on core principles of flexibility and efficiency. A common core of technology is used within the products that ease integration, set-up and management.  At the heart of each of the products is a strong, flexible, modern Client/Server design. This highly modular approach means that the system can be upgraded, modified and supported in discrete areas without impacting other parts of the solution.

Fundamental to the design of Essentis is a client-server architecture that supports open access by end users and other application systems. Through Essentis Open Messaging an XML-based solution is available under a range of protocols to facilitate the implementation of multiple delivery channels on a single system without the need for server changes.

The message-based architecture makes a common server interface available whatever the means of access to the system - whether via head-office screen, branch workstation, Internet or automated telephony.

Essentis has a flexible open system architecture, which facilitates the integration with third party systems and with internal and/or external applications, e.g. authorisation and switching systems, customer databases, behavioural scoring systems, core banking systems and general ledger. This is delivered through the online messaging architecture and also through the standard batch interfaces supported in the base product.

The technology selected for the client-server architecture is based on a thin client concept, with the ability to support both 2-tier and 3-tier solutions.

Portable across platforms and database management systems, the design has been initially implemented under z/OS and DB2/CICS for the host server, with Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP as the standard client platform.

The system provides full availability (i.e. available 24x7x365) of all online functions during batch processing, including authorisations.

User Interface

Key to achieving significant productivity gains for the system's users is an efficient Graphical User Interface.

The Essentis solution delivers a standard Windows-based GUI as a comprehensive, user-friendly user interface that fully exploits Windows features such as descriptive pull-down list selection, scrolling and sorting of lists etc., while at the same time offering customers the choice of redesigning this interface to suit specific needs, or replacing with alternative customer service front-end solutions (e.g. browser-based).
