Public art photos
Public art has been commissioned and put in place for
thousands of years, with a view to educate, record,
commemorate or to promote an idea. In the past
few years it has also been used to engage or surprise
the viewer and for this reason it has a value rather
different to that of sculpture, although there is
significant overlap between the two
The statue of King Frederick V of Denmark (1771) in the centre
of the Amalienborg Palace Square in Copenhagen, facing Frederik's
Church was part of a complex designed to commemorate the then
300 year rule of Frederik's family. The statue was made by
