Public art photos

Public art has been commissioned and put in place for
thousands of years, with a view to educate, record,
commemorate or to promote an idea. In the past
few years it has also been used to engage or surprise
the viewer and for this reason it has a value rather
different to that of sculpture, although there is
significant overlap between the two

Tiberinus, Rome

Statue of Tiberinus at the foot of the steps of the Capitoline Museum,
Rome holding a cornucopia or horn of plenty, this is a classic piece of
public art as celebration and propaganda, as Tiberinus was the river
god who was reputed to have found Romulus and Remus, so leading
to the foundation of Rome
