CIPD Spring 2011 Law on Tour
From 1 February 2011 the maximum unfair dismissal compensatory award rose to £68,400 from £65,300. The maximum amount for a ‘week’s pay’ also rose to £400 from £380. This means that the maximum unfair dismissal award (excluding protected disclosure dismissals) is £80,400.
Given the rise in compensation for successful unfair dismissal claims it is vitally important that employers understand what makes a dismissal potentially unfair and automatically unfair. Clear and thorough understanding of the legislation, case law and the relevant Acas Codes of Practice can greatly reduce the risk of losing a claim at Employment Tribunal.
From time to time, however, the only sensible course of action open to an employer is to recognise the potential risk, or inevitability, of a successful claim and lawfully compromise the employee’s right to make it.
The CIPD Spring touring workshops, written and delivered by KLC employment law tutors, will focus on how to manage fair dismissals; how to instigate and manage compromise agreements and pre-claim COT3 settlements; and when a claim is made how to manage the claim through the Employment Tribunal process.
The workshops will also review the latest employment legislation and important case law.
