Over the past ten years McCabe Pilgrimages has introduced hundreds of church leaders to the Seven Churches of Asia and Istanbul. Increasingly church groups are looking at other options in Turkey, including Cappadocia.
McCabe's eleven day pilgrimage to Turkey is the most popular option with Church groups and allows for detailed visits to all of the Seven Churches. The tour begins in ancient Byzantium (modern Istanbul) and includes visits to Topkapi Palace, the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, St Saviour's in Chora and, of course, a cruise on the Bosphorus. In Aegean Turkey the lives of St Paul and St John become interwoven and the climax of the pilgrimage is a visit to the ruins of Ephesus.
The group spends three nights in Istanbul, two nights in Bergama, one night in Pamukkale and four nights by the sea near Ephesus. We use scheduled flights of Turkish Airlines (with the option of fling from either London Heathrow or Manchester) and there are two internal flights within Turkey.
Our tours to Southern Turkey focus on the life of St Paul and usually include visits to Tarsus (his birthplace), Antioch (his ‘home church’) and some of the places he visited on his first missionary journey such as Iconium and Perge. The Byzantine rock-churches of Cappadocia are a highlight of the journey and deepen our understanding of our Christian forebears.
