Turkey
is McCabe’s most popular destination after the Holy Land. We offer itineraries
which help to reveal the life of the Early Church and retrace the steps
of some of the early Christians, including St Paul and St John.
We
also have a range of programmes in Eastern Turkey featuring Trabzon (Sumela
monastery), Van, Ani, Mount Ararat, Harran and other sites of Christian
and general interest
Our
Gulet (yacht) cruises combine a leisurely week of cruising (with
sightseeing) with a variety of land-based extensions such as Istanbul,
Ephesus or others of the Seven Churches. Many have commented on the
relaxed nature of the sail and this tour is becoming one of our most
popular tours.

McCabe Pilgrimages has developed a 10 day tour through the heart of the Greek mainland featuring the principal people and places described in the Acts of the Apostles, set against the context of Ancient Greece. We visit the Acropolis in Athens where St Paul addressed his ministry for the first time to a gentile audience. We explore the extensive remains of Corinth and nearby Delphi, epicentre of ancient Greek civilisation, before travelling north by way of the spectacular Meteora monasteries to Berea, Thessalonica and Philippi.
We
read and pray where some of the first Christians worshipped
and witnessed and gain an understanding of the Classical world and how
it influenced the growth of the early church. |

The McCabe
8 day programme to Rome and Assisi is
packed with diverse interests. During our time in Rome we touch on the
earliest days of our faith as we visit the catacombs and Colosseum.
We
feel the might and grandeur of the Roman empire as we travel along the
Appian Way and visit the Pantheon temple. In this setting we explore the
Vatican City and the Cistine Chapel. Wednesday gives the opportunity
to attend the Papal audience in St Peter’s Square. The second part of
our pilgrimage is a 2 night stay in Assisi, the home village of St Francis,
a picturesque town where nature, art and faith come together and the
ideal place for us to reflect on the momentous influence this area has
had on the church from its earliest beginnings. |

The Diocese of Iran
A PERSIAN ODYSSEY with the Friends of the Diocese of Iran Our programme offers a unique opportunity to explore the historic and architecturally distinguished cities in Iran in the context of the local Christian community living in an Islamic Republic. After a day in the museums and palaces of Tehran, we fly to Kerman and see the extraordinary walled city of Bam. We visit Shiraz, once the capital city, and home to two of the most celebrated Persian poets (Hafez and Sa'di). We continue to royal Isfahan, Shah Abbas' capital and one of the world's most beautiful cities. Yazd, an oasis in the desert, is famous for its wind towers which cool the old houses, and for its Zoroastrian community. We visit the Towers of Silence and the sacred fire in the mountain shrine of Chaq Chaq. We journey north via Natanz to Kashan. Between the mountains and the desert, Kashan is said to be the place from which the Three Wise Men set out for Bethlehem. It once boasted twenty-four caravanserai, eighteen mosques and thirty-five hotels, but it is now a quiet town of old houses, shrines and the peaceful Bagh-I Fin Safavid garden. From Kashan, we return to Tehran. Holy Russia We combine stays in Moscow and St Petersburg, as well as visiting some of the monasteries along the River Volga. We will be visiting old working monasteries such as the Trinity Monastery at Sergiev Posad and the Alexander Nevsky Monastery in St Petersburg, as well as the recently reconstructed Church of Christ the King. During the early Christian period, clergy from the Byzantine Empire came to Russia although the Slav tongue was always used in worship and gradually Russian clergy replaced the Greeks. The church's headquarters stayed in Kiev until 1300 when they moved briefly north to Vladimir and then to Moscow in the 1320s. Oberammergau.
