An Eagle’s Tale

or

“How the 2012 Big Bird Trophy Was Won”

It soareth round about the sun

Purveying battles lost and won

With wing restored to former glory

The Big Bird now doth tells its story

At Michaelmas to Westerham

Your scribe and all the rest of ‘em

Contesting for the Jacket Red

A race intrepid Lofty led

Following the outward nine,

The par 5 tenth, an endless climb

Past the tarn and up the hill

Of wond’rous views you have your fill

With lusty Brassie, handsome Cleek

And Jigger was there ne’er-so sweet

The chip popped up and landed fair

And made its way to the demon’s lair

The players watched with breath quite bated

As record books anticipated

Verily ‘twas quite a cutie

With bellowed shout “GET IN YOU BEAUTY”

An EAGLE briefly soared and pounced

As Vuvuzelas loud announced

Flasks were drained to toast this chance

And strangely then a chicken dance!

And so the Big Bird crown was won

Beneath the Kentish Summer sun

And then just like this foolish song

The eagle soared, the moment gone
