Minutes of August Meeting
Date: 10 August 2005
Present: HO, PB, DA, NM
Venue: Crowborough
There
was no easy money to made at the bookies for this one with odds of 10 to 1 on
NM to win, and unsurprisingly (playing on his own course and off a Hoorah
handicap 5 strokes more than his official Crowborough handicap), NM duly obliged
and hoovered up – whilst cannily protecting his handicap by blobbing the last
when the victory was safely in the bag. It cannot be a coincidence that his
only wayward drive of the day was on the 18th when he duck-hooked into the
woods and seemed less than happy when his ball was found by his playing
partners!
And
how the mighty are fallen, with the Rock looking more like a soggy sponge,
triple-blobbing to open his round; a fair back 9 was not enough to avoid last
place for the first time; still, his increased handicap should stand him in
better stead for the remaining games.
The
Doctor played solidly but was unable to contain NM, ran out of WD40 early in
the hot conditions, and had to settle for another second place; PB suffered
with HO from too many wayward drives, from which there was no respite or mercy
in the harsh woods, rough and heather.
The
greens were hard and fast, and not a decent putt went in all day, leaving the
birdie pot unclaimed for the first time in Hoorah history.
There
was no obvious buffoon-of-the-day incident, with DA turning up on time and PB
remembering his shoes, and it is only fair in the circumstances for the award
to pass to HO, simply for his buffoonish golf, and in particular his
triple-blob start, which may stand as a record for some time to come.

to NM on his overall win and regaining his place as leader in the 2005 OOM!
