Getting Together / Community > Social & Support Groups and Hard of Hearing Clubs Want to enlarge your circle of friends in an environment where hearing loss is not an obstacle? Why not consider joining a club or group where you'll meet other people just like yourself? There are many clubs and groups throughout the UK which are run locally by and for people with a varying degrees of hearing loss. Some are specifically for people who are Hard of Hearing or are deafened and they often include an element of support to their members. In all cases, the main purpose of these clubs and groups is to provide social facilities in their local communities to people with a hearing loss. Each club or group arranges its own activities and social events - outings and parties perhaps. Clubs may meet in a variety of places: community halls, pubs, cafés and members' homes for example. There are over a hundred of these across the UK. People of all ages attend - from 18 years of age onwards. All promise a warm welcome to members old and new and the opportunity to share experiences, make new friends and feel part of the community. Here are the details of some of the local clubs and groups available. Those who mainly cater for Hard of Hearing people generally include that fact in their title. The others shown cater for deafened people as well as those with a less severe hearing loss. All the clubs and groups listed here are run independently of Hearing Concern LINK. |
