Hearing Concern LINK has a team of Outreach Volunteers covering all parts of the UK. They provide support, practical advice and help. Meeting an Outreach Volunteer gives you the opportunity to discuss how acquired profound hearing loss is affecting you and your family. • About the scheme Outreach Volunteers are deafened people and the partners of deafened people. They will contact people in their own area through visits and contact by letter and/or e-mail. They provide practical information about useful services and resources, benefits and employment and other issues relevant to deafened individuals and their families. They also visit people who are intending to attend any of our programmes. Much of their work is undertaken in collaboration with health professionals such as hearing therapists, audiologists and social workers. • How you will benefit You will be able to explore coping and communication strategies with someone who is living with acquired profound hearing loss. An Outreach Volunteer will also be able the help you locate local service such as lipreading classes, social services, equipment centres and relevant organisations. • Where are they? In all parts of the UK. They are of all ages and all backgrounds. • How to apply. Find out whether there is an OV in your area, contact us for more information. Alternatively, you may know someone who is interested, or would like to refer a patient or client. More Outreach Volunteers are needed. If you or your partner are living with acquired profound hearing loss and you can spare about two hours per month to support someone in a similar situation.
