May Bank Holiday Siege
The year is 1483 and rebellion stalks the land. Richard, Duke of Gloucester, has seized his two nephews, imprisoned them in the Tower of London, and declared himself King. Now as King Richard III, he faces not only dissent from his own barons but another claimant to the throne in the form of Henry Tudor. As The King prepares to deal with this new threat he receives news that his ordinance has been seized by a Welsh Baron, who heading for Sussex intends to lay siege to Arundel Castle, taking it and the inland port, and holding it until Henry arrives. Although there was no historical siege of Arundel Castle in the 15th Century, the three day event will show the importance of artillery in taking a castle, and as a battle field weapon, skirmishes between the two sides, and crafts, costumes and armour of the period. With a large tented encampment throughout the upper grounds of the castle, armourer, Distant Trumpets Story Teller, and three prominent living history groups in the form of Raven Tor, British Plate Armour Society, and The Company of St. Barbara, the Bank Holiday Weekend will be filled with the sounds of battle and conflict. |
